Police in Fort McMurray are investigating a Saturday morning shooting just steps away from their detachment headquarters in Timberlea.
According to an RCMP news release, police received a report of gunshots in the Powder Drive area of town at about 1:45 a.m. on Saturday. Police say there were no reported injuries in the incident.
RCMP Spokesperson Cst. Ashley Quallie said that police were able to find evidence to confirm that a shooting took place.
About a dozen police officers were on the scene at the Venture Terrace housing division on Saturday morning, speaking to residents in the area and looking through yards in neighbouring streets.
Police taped off a large area in the housing division, and had placed about 25 numbered pylons on the street. The scene is about 200 metres away from the RCMP detachment headquarters on Paquette Drive in Timberlea.
One male resident said that he hadn't seen such large police activity in the years he's been living in the area.
Police have asked individuals with possible information on the incident to contact the Wood Buffalo detachment at 780-788-4000. Tips can be provided anonymously by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
